The 74th Edo Summer Festival: Ueno Summer Matsuri

Held at Ueno Onshi Park, the “Ueno Summer Matsuri” is an event that families of all ages can enjoy together.
On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, you can enjoy traditional festival stalls and street food.
Daily-changing music live shows and theatrical performances offer a diverse stage program.
Other attractions include Japanese drum performances, yukata photo sessions, monkey shows, antique markets, lantern floating ceremonies, and an ice carving contest.
In the evenings, lanterns light up the area creating a magical atmosphere.

Sumida-Asakusa Collaboration: Sumida River Lantern Floating

The lantern floating event began at the Asakusa Reconstruction Festival in 1946 to honor war and water disaster victims. It was halted in 1966 due to seawall construction but revived about 40 years later in 2005 with the completion of the riverside terrace. Each year, about 2,000 lanterns float down the Sumida River, allowing participants to honor the deceased and personally release lanterns. Applications are accepted both in advance and on the day of the event.

The 60th Nakameguro Summer Festival

Nakameguro’s summer tradition spans over 50 years, featuring Awa Odori dance on the first day with 23 groups and 850 dancers, and Yosakoi dance on the second day with 41 teams and 875 dancers. Each day at 4 PM, participating teams perform pre-event dances. The lively beats of drums and flutes fill the air as dancers energize the crowd. The 46th Sunshine City Summer Bon Odori Festival

The Sunshine City Bon Odori Festival is a traditional community event held since 1978.
Participants dance around a roughly 6-meter-high yagura stage to classic tunes like Tokyo Ondo and Otsuka Monogatari Ondo, enjoying an old-fashioned atmosphere.
The event also features a kids’ mini-festival with shooting galleries and ring toss, plus food and drink stalls.
During the open dance time, anyone can freely join and enjoy Bon Odori.

Fukagawa Hachiman Festival (Tomioka Hachiman Shrine Annual Festival)

The annual festival of Tomioka Hachiman Shrine, dating back to 1642, is one of Edo’s three great festivals.
Known as a water-splashing festival, spectators along the route douse the portable shrines (mikoshi) with purifying water.
Fifty-two adult mikoshi and children’s mikoshi parade through the area. Highlights include mikoshi shaking and tossing techniques.
Various traditional performances such as Japanese dance, taiko drumming, koto, and Noh are also showcased at the shrine grounds, creating a lively atmosphere.

The 59th Azabu Juban Summer Festival
